Suffolk Woman Fled Scene After Striking Teen Waiting at School Bus Stop: Police
The 16-year-old girl suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning, police say.

UPDATED at 4:10 p.m.: A Holbrook woman who drove away after she struck and seriously injured a 16-year-old girl waiting at a school bus stop in Holtsville was arrested Wednesday morning after she later returned to the scene, police say.
According to authorities, Amanda Duffy, 24, was driving a 2016 Ford northbound on Morris Avenue when she struck Tara Hayes, a Sachem East High School student, who was standing between Division Street and Drury Court, at 6:42 a.m.
Duffy fled the scene but returned approximately an hour later, police say.

Hayes, of Farmingville, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
Duffy was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury. She was released on bail and will be arraigned at a later date.

In a letter to parents, Sachem Central School District Superintendent Kenneth E. Graham said the girl’s parents have been contacted and are in the hospital with her.
“The accident is currently being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department,” Graham said in the letter, which was shared on the district’s Twitter page. “We will continue to update the community on the situation as we learn more. We ask that you keep the student and family in your thoughts.”
