Sachem High School East Senior National Merit Semifinalist

FARMINGVILLE, NY — Sachem High School East senior Siddharth Sheth has been named a semifinalist in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program, Sachem Central School District officials said.

Sheth was among about 16,000 "academically talented" high school students from across the United States to be named a semifinalist in the program, according to school district officials. As part of the program, high school juniors entered by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, school district officials said.

School district officials congratulated Sheth calling his being named to the program an "outstanding accomplishment and wishes him the best as he advances in the competition."

Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest-scoring entrants in each state, said officials, adding that the program’s semifinalists have the opportunity to advance in the competition to win scholarships worth nearly $28 million.

About 95 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing after submitting a detailed scholarship application, school district officials said.

Finalists in the program are expected to be announced in February.
