Sachem HS North Gym’s Court Dedicated To Beloved Teacher

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — The gymnasium at Sachem High School North was dedicated to past Sachem teacher Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano who died from cancer in January of 2020.

The ceremony celebrated the life of DiStefano, affectionately referred to as “Dezy” by faculty and students, who left an “everlasting mark on the Sachem community through his time as an athlete, teacher, coach, and overall inspiration,” school officials stated in a news release.

He "shared his message of positivity and hope through his mantra, 'We Get To,'" the news release stated.
