Sachem High School North Principal John Dolan is heading to East Islip.
The East Islip Board of Education appointed Dolan as the South Shore district’s new superintendent at a meeting Tuesday night.
“We are very happy to welcome a person of John’s caliber to our district,” East Islip Board President Steven Behan said. “He is a true academic leader, and we are confident he will serve our district well as its new superintendent. His love of education will continue to push our district toward achieving and maintaining the high academic standards we have come to expect.”

Dolan will leave Sachem after five years as principal at North. He came to Sachem after serving as a principal in Smithtown and a 15-year stint as a teacher in the Patchogue-Medford district. He replaced Jim Nolan as North’s principal in the middle of the 2009-10 school year when Nolan took over as Sachem’s superintendent.
Dolan will start his new job in East Islip on July 1.

The district released the following statement on Wednesday regarding Dolan’s departure:
John has been a wonderful Principal at Sachem High School North and we’re grateful for his service to the Sachem Central School District. We wish him well in his new role as Superintendent at East Islip and we know that the students, faculty and staff there are getting a good leader and even better man as their school chief.
