Sachem North Valedictorian Nabs Runner-Up Honors in Yahoo Contest

Ruchi Shah recognized in Yahoo's "Women Who Shine" contest with help from local community.

Sachem North's reigning valedictorian Ruchi Shah was recently recognized by Yahoo as a runner-up in the company's "Women Who Shine" contest, a national campaign that brings attention to influential women throughout the country, voted in through an online system.

"I am so thankful for this honor and it truly is a product of all of the support of the Sachem community!" Shah told Patch in an email.

Shah received the runner-up spot in the Enterpreneur category, falling just behind blogger Amee Contagallo. Contagallo organizes Pay it Forward campaigns and other citizenship campaigns through her blog Madame Deals.

Back in September Patch reported on Shah's entrance in the contest for her creation and development of an all-natural mosquito repellent, which has already won her plenty of accolades, including a $25,000 scholarship after being named a National AXA Achiever, one of just 10 in the nation.

Shah is currently a student at Stony Brook University's Scholars for Medicine Program.
