Sachem School Budget Vote Tuesday: What You Need To Know
The proposed budget would hike school taxes by 5.73 percent next year.

Sachem voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots on a proposed 2018-19 school budget and for school board candidates.
School board winners are already determined as incumbents William Coggin and Laura Slattery are running unopposed. Meredith Volpe is also running unopposed and she will take over the seat being vacated by Robert Scavo, who is not seeking re-election.
The board's proposed $322.9 million budget represents a 2.77 percent spending increase over the current year and it includes a 5.73 percent hike in the school tax levy, which is at the district's allowable tax cap so only a simple majority is needed to pass the budget.

It's second highest proposed tax hike among Suffolk County school districts, but Sachem school officials say
"this year’s larger than average percentage increase is primarily driven by a $5 million reduction in State Building Aid."
