Sachem Student To Present Research At National Summit
The sophomore will present his research at the American Medical Informatics Association's 2020 Informatics Summit in Houston.

FARMINGVILLE, NY — Sachem High School East science research sophomore Asweel Mehaboob has been selected to present his research at the American Medical Informatics Association's 2020 Informatics Summit next month. The event will be held March 24 in Houston, the school district announced.
Mehaboob's research was selected from about 500 submissions spanning content areas including translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, implementation informatics and data science. As part of his research, Mehaboob has worked with a team of college students at Stony Brook University over five weeks to develop and create an application for people with neurodegenerative diseases that improves touch accuracy on touchscreen devices. The application aims to ensure easier touchscreen device use for people suffering from conditions like Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease.
Mehaboob called it a "great experience.

"It was very interesting to assist people suffering such complex diseases," he said. "It is incredible to know that I can already contribute to assist people with these types of conditions."
