Here are the top three stories today in Sachem:

  1. Suffolk communities to get ShotSpotter technology. The technology allows law enforcement to track where guns have been fired in real time. The eleven communities getting the technology in Suffolk account for more than 50% of gun violence in the county. "Suffolk is comprised of 2,373 square miles and 22 of those square miles, or less than one percent, are subjected to over 50 percent of the county's gun violence," Suffolk DA Ray Tierney said.   3. A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a person in Ronkonkoma. The person was hit just before 7 p.m. Monday night near Pond Road and was confirmed dead at the scene by Metropolitan Transportation Authority police. The person was not authorized to be on the tracks. (Sachem Patch)
