'Strange Man' Approached Students At Suffolk School Bus Stop: School District

He had a black beard and was wearing jeans and a cowboy hat as he approached the students, Sachem schools superintendent says.

HOLTSVILLE, NY — Sachem Central School District officials sent a stranger danger alert to parents on Thursday after receiving a report of a strange man watching students across from their bus stop in front of the Woodhull Garden Apartments in Holtsville.

In the message to parents, Schools Superintendent Christopher Pellettieri said that earlier in the morning, a parent called Sachem East High School informing administrators about a strange man watching students across from their bus stop located at the corner of Castle Lane and Bluepoint Road.

The man, who had a black beard and was wearing jeans and a cowboy hat, crossed the street and approached the students, asking where they go to school. One told him Sachem, Pellettieri said, adding that school officials alerted Suffolk police and made bus drivers aware.

A police spokeswoman said that neither the precinct's command, nor the school resource officer for the school are aware of the incident.

"Please be sure to have a conversation with your children regarding these types of situations and that they should notify the bus driver and or any other school official immediately," he wrote.
