Students Become Official Authors and Illustrators

From Sachem Schools: A collaborative project at Chippewa Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District recently combined literacy, math and art as first grade students in Donna Gianfortone’s class published their very own book, “A World of Math.”

Inspired by a love for math, students in Gianfortone’s class set out to publish a book that depicted where math is present in our everyday lives. Each student wrote a page for the book and created an illustration to accompany their writing, showcasing their artistic abilities. At the conclusion of the project, students attended a “red carpet event” where family and friends were invited to hear the first reading of their new literary masterpiece before celebrating their impressive accomplishment.
