Suffolk Health Department Closes Down Ronkonkoma Beach Due To Bacteria Levels

The action happened as part of the county's regular beach monitoring.

RONKONKOMA, NY — Ronkonkoma Beach is closed to bathing due to findings of bacterial levels exceeding acceptable criteria, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said.

The beach, which is located on Rosevale Avenue, will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott has advised that bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
