Teen Bicyclist Critically Hurt In Crash On 25A In Miller Place: Police

He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk police said.

MILLER PLACE, NY — A crash critically hurt a teenage bicyclist in Miller Place on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A Ford F-550 XL Super Duty was being driven westbound on Route 25A, when it was merged into the turning lane to make a left turn into the entrance of L Delea and Sons Sod Farms on Route 25A, at around 3:20 p.m., and while on the shoulder of the roadway, an eastbound bicycle struck the passenger side door, according to police.

After striking the vehicle, the 14-year-old from Miller Place fell off the bicycle, and the back passenger side tires of the truck ran him over, police said, adding that the driver stopped his vehicle and called 911.

The teen was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, while the Ford's driver, 58, of Sound Beach, was not hurt, police said.

The vehicle was inspected at the scene by Motor Carrier Safety Section officers, according to police.

Detectives from the 6th Squad in Selden are investigating.
