🌱 Upgraded Charges For Holbrook Bouncer + Sloth Encounters Update

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Hi all. It's me, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town, including...

  • Check out five new homes on the market.
  • Upgraded charges for Holbrook bouncer who killed patron.
  • Sloth Encounters making home visits after business was forced to close.

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny; windy, cooler. High: 63 low: 48.

Here are the top three stories today in Sachem:

  1. A Holbrook bouncer's charges have been upgraded from a fatal punch to man outside Tailgater's Bar. David Cruz of North Bellmore punched Jack Scott outside the bar on Aug. 21. Scott, 32, died from his injuries on Sept. 3. Cruz was originally charged with felony assault with intent to cause physical injury and the charges have just been upgraded to manslaughter. He has been out on bond since his arrest on Aug. 24. (Patch)
  2. Sloth Encounters is making home visits after the business was forced to close last week. The former Hauppauge sloth-petting business is still bringing sloths to people's homes, according to its website. "Because the court's ruling had nothing to do with the health and safety of our sloths and was strictly just a zoning issue within the town of Islip, Sloth Encounters can come to you!" the business wrote on Instagram. "We had to close our physical doors of our sanctuary to the public but the doors of education are still wide open for all of you!" (Patch)
  3. Check out five new homes to hit the market in the town of Brookhaven. The housing market has finally dipped in prices on Long Island and now may be the time to buy. Click the photo of the home to learn more on the listing. (Sachem Patch)
