As Long Islanders, we pride ourselves on being able to masterfully pronounce some tricky sounding town names. There sure are plenty of them across the island. But what happens when out-of-towners try to pronounce Long Island towns? The results aren't always pretty, y'all.
Elena Barilla, a Long Islander attending college at the University of South Carolina, did field research on the matter. Barilla's video of her Southern friends attempting to say the names of Long Island towns, from Copiague to Hauppauge, has been shared thousands of times on Twitter since Monday, and with good reason.
