SAYVILLE, NY — Two Sayville Middle School staff members have been recognized by the Association for Middle Level Education as outstanding adult advocates for young adolescents, an honor awarded during March in celebration of Middle Level Education Month.

Lisa Krauth, a sixth-grade science teacher, was honored for her work supporting students during one of their most formative academic and social periods. School officials said Krauth creates a classroom environment that balances academic rigor with strong emotional support.

Known for her high-energy teaching style, Krauth brings complex scientific concepts to life while encouraging students to see themselves as scientists. Her approach helps foster curiosity that extends beyond the classroom.

Bob Haynes—affectionately known by students as “Mr. Bob”—was also recognized for his role as a trusted and consistent presence throughout the school community.

More than a traditional staff member, Haynes is known for building authentic relationships with students in everyday settings, from the cafeteria to hallways and playground spaces. A retired law enforcement officer, he combines mentorship with a focus on safety, helping create an environment that is both welcoming and secure.

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Krauth and Mr. Haynes for earning this well-deserved recognition,” Sayville Middle School Principal Dr. Joseph Castoro said. “They represent the very best of our school community and the profound impact that caring, dedicated adults can have on the lives of young adolescents.”
