SAYVILLE, NY — The Sayville Board of Education appointed John Lorentz as the district’s interim superintendent at the school's June 18 board meeting. The appointment is effective as of Aug. 1.
“On behalf of the Sayville Board of Education, we are pleased to welcome John Lorentz to the Sayville School District,” Board of Education President Christine Sarni said. “As we entered this period of transition, our priority was to select an experienced educational leader who can provide stability, continuity, and strong leadership while maintaining the high standards that define Sayville schools. We are confident that Mr. Lorentz is that leader.”
Lorentz brings more than 30 years of experience in public education. He began his career in school business administration and served as assistant superintendent for business in both the Longwood and Farmingdale school districts, district officials said.
In 2006, Lorentz was appointed superintendent of schools in the Farmingdale School District, a position he held until his retirement in 2018.
District officials said Lorentz is known for fiscal management, collaborative leadership and decision-making, as well as a focus on student success. His experience is expected to help provide stability during the district’s transition period.
“I am honored to join the Sayville School District and grateful for the opportunity to serve as interim superintendent,” Lorentz said. “I look forward to working with the Board of Education, staff, students, families, and community to build on Sayville’s strong tradition of excellence and support the success of every student.”
