WEST SAYVILLE, NY — A fire tore through a detached two-car garage in West Sayville on Thursday morning, causing part of the roof to collapse as propane tanks intensified the flames, fire officials said.

A working fire was reported after fire officials found the garage fully engulfed in flames, according to the department.

During the blaze, a propane tank's pressure relief valve activated, releasing pressurized gas that intensified the fire, officials said.

The heavy flames also caused a partial collapse of the garage roof.

Firefighters deployed a second hose line to cool the propane tanks and prevent further escalation, officials said.

The Sayville, Bohemia and Bayport fire departments provided mutual aid, along with Community Ambulance Company.
