3 Of America's Favorite Neighborhood Restaurants In HV

With the three, there is something for everyone. What is your favorite neighborhood eatery?

We all have that favorite eatery in our neighborhood that is the go-to spot when we are hungry or just want a piece of pie and a cup of coffee. Bon Appétit asked 80 chefs, novelists, activist, athletes, comedians and the like to tell them about America’s Favorite Neighborhood Restaurants — the one that they go back to time and again.

The thing about a neighborhood restaurant is it doesn’t have to be trendy, though it could be, or the newest, though it might be.

It’s the Red Rooster in Brewster.

This low-key drive-in is notable for the red-and-white-striped façade and huge fake soft-serve cone on the roof.

Music said she is quite taken with the Sea Dog, a deep-fried fish fillet on a hot dog bun. Read more about the Red Rooster here.

Next up, Julia Turshen, founder of Equity at the Table, a database for food industry professionals featuring only women/gender non-conforming folks, chose a Jamaican restaurant in Kingston.

Her headline said it all: Top Taste Isn’t the Food of My Home, But it Makes Me Feel at Home.

Turshen said the owners Sammy and Malenda remind her of the “ripple effect of a friendly conversation and how it can carry you for hours after.”

The food to get includes Sammy’s jerk chicken and whatever cake — hopefully coconut-rum — Malenda baked that morning.

And to bring it to Westchester, comedian and actor Ben Schwartz, of “Parks and Recreation” and “House of Lies,” said his fave was Ginannoni’s Deli in Scarsdale, with its Italian combo sandwiches. He focused on sandwiches that included crispy, lightly breaded thin chicken cutlets.
