89-Year-Old Hartsdale Man Dies in Monday Morning Fire

John Chu, an 89-year-old mathematician, has been identified as the man who died  in Monday's early morning house fire in Hartsdale, according to The Journal News.

Chu's wife, 85-year-old Nan Chu, was rescued from the 6:05 a.m. blaze and was listed in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center.

Fire officials said it appeared John Chu was cooking in the kitchen of the 7 Frost Lane home when the fire started. The home was not equipped with smoke detectors, according to The Journal News.
