I have sent today to the State Comptroller’s Office a detailed rebuttal to the letter which the

Town Board sent to that office dated March 9, 2026 with respect to a financial report the

Town Board commissioned from EFPR Group as to the years 2020-2023. As I have written in

this rebuttal, the Town Board’s letter

…is riddled with brazen inaccuracies, false statements, and material omissions. It is

political grandstanding seeking to cast doubt on the Town’s finances, even though

the Town’s bond rating has increased several times during [my] tenure to the highest

rating. The Town has Aaa rating by Moody’s and AAA rating by Standard & Poor’s.

It is no coincidence that the Town Board’s request—that the State Comptroller open an

investigation into matters that supposedly occurred three to five years ago—comes shortly

before a Democratic primary party for Town Supervisor. The Town Board is supporting

another candidate selected by that party.

My rebuttal letter to the Comptroller presents the essential facts and laws that the Town

Board ignores or misstates. I urge you to read my rebuttal and decide who’s telling the truth

Though I dispute much of what is in the Town Board letter, I also document, as the Town

Board fails to do, that the Departments of Town government have already adopted and

implemented many changes suggested in the EFPR report. Most of these were in areas

where the Town Board, not the Town Supervisor, has principal responsibility by statute and

code. This is detailed in my rebuttal sent the Comptroller. Here’s its conclusion:

The original EFPR report stated: “Our review did not identify any indication of

malfeasance.” That conclusion was correct.…Even if your office were to conclude—

despite what is explained here, and the Town’s adopted corrective action plans—

that an examination of certain Town practices is warranted, it would have to target

the entire Town Board. At all pertinent times, it knew of those practices and

adopted, approved, or acquiesced in them. In pointing a finger at the Town

Supervisor, the Town Board is in effect pointing four fingers back at itself.
