Scarsdale Physician Recognized for Exceptional Patient Care

GREENWICH, CT – Dr. Linda Renee Mitchell, a palliative care physician at Greenwich Hospital known for her dedication to patients and families facing serious illness, has been nominated for the Dr. Melville G. Magida Award, an annual recognition presented by the Fairfield County Medical Association for exceptional patient care, professionalism, and compassion.

As a specialist in palliative care, Dr. Mitchell provides both inpatient and outpatient care, helping patients and their families navigate complex medical decisions, manage pain and symptoms, and create personalized care plans that reflect their goals and values. Colleagues describe her as a physician whose empathy, patience, and dedication provide comfort and guidance during some of life's most challenging moments.

"Her ability to listen, advocate, and provide meaningful support during difficult times is a testament to the impact physicians can have on the lives of those they serve."

Dr. Mitchell's dedication to patients and families is evident in the care she provides. In one instance, Dr. Mitchell remained at the hospital after hours to help clarify a critically ill patient's wishes, ensuring the care team had the guidance needed to make informed decisions. In nominating Dr. Mitchell, Karen Santucci, MD, Greenwich Hospital's Chief Medical Officer, noted that Dr. Mitchell "gives a voice to people who oftentimes don't have one and ensures they are truly being heard by all those around them," reflecting the compassionate, patient-centered approach she brings to every patient interaction.

Before joining Greenwich Hospital, Dr. Mitchell served as Associate Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center and as an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she educated and mentored future physicians. At Greenwich Hospital, she also serves on the Bioethics Committee, extending her commitment to thoughtful, patient-centered decision-making beyond her clinical practice.

The Dr. Melville G. Magida Award honors physicians whose clinical excellence is matched by integrity, compassion, and a commitment to serving others. Dr. Mitchell will be recognized as Greenwich Hospital's 2026 nominee at the Fairfield County Medical Association's Annual Dinner Meeting on October 8, 2026, at The Patterson Club in Fairfield.
