Liz Gerrity, Deputy Building Inspector reported that The Building Department responded to a reported structural fire at Tranquility Spa at approximately 7:45 a.m.
The fire appears to have originated in a utility/laundry area and extended into portions of the wall assembly/ductwork before being brought under control by responding fire departments. No injuries were reported.
Con Edison has terminated gas and electrical service to the building as a precaution.
Frank Morabito, the Building Inspector and Deputy Building Inspector Gerrity coordinated with Greenville Fire, Westchester County Department of Health, and the building management engineer to assess potential structural, life and food safety impacts. Tranquility Spa, Chipotle, Panera Bread, the sushi restaurant, and
Chick-fil-A remain temporarily closed pending completion of integrity testing, Board of Health inspections and any required repairs.
The electrical contractor has already filed the necessary permit to conduct testing of the building's electrical systems. We are currently awaiting submission of the plumbing permit to perform integrity testing of the gas piping system and complete the required utility assessments.
Sorry for the inconveniences. Thank you to those who are working together to get the businesses up and running again.
