Westchester Community Foundation welcomes Karen Walsh and Joaquin Alemany to the Board of Advisors

The Westchester Community Foundation (WCF) announces the appointment of Karen Walsh and Joaquin Alemany, both residents of Scarsdale, to its Board of Advisors. 

Mr. Alemany is an attorney with the law firm of Alemany and Sheehan.  He has presided as judge in the village of Sleepy Hollow and as an Administrative Law Judge with the Westchester County Human Rights Commission.  He served on the Westchester County Hispanic Advisory Board and on the respective Boards of the Westchester Hispanic Coalition and The Pre-Trial Services Institute of Westchester.     

Ms. Walsh is a founding partner of the law firm Walsh, Amicucci and Pantaleo.   She is active as a volunteer with the Westchester County Bar’s Trust and Estates section, as well as the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, where she is co-chair of the Trusts and Estates committee.    She currently serves on the board of the Edward & Dorothy Perkins Foundation, a private foundation that benefits children and pet animals.

McCrosson, the chair of the Board of Advisors. “Their legal expertise as well as their backgrounds in community volunteerism, bring a unique perspective to our work as a community foundation board of advisors.  We are looking forward to working with them.”

Ms. Walsh and Mr. Alemany joins fellow advisors Dale Akinla II, Vennetta Chambers Amory, Jacqueline Dunbar MD, Denise S. Farrell, Wiley Harrison, Paul, Jenkel, Theresa Beach Kilman, Rosia Blackwell Lawrence, Michael Markhoff, Judith Matson, Matthew G. McCrosson, Katherine Moore, Raymond M. Planell, Jose Reynoso, Kathy Rosenthal, David Shover, Natan Vaisman, and Drusilla van Hengel.

This year, the Westchester Community Foundation will distribute nearly $4 million to charities, of which more than $1.2 million will be distributed to Westchester County nonprofit organizations through a competitive grants process. These grants are available to nonprofit organizations that submit applications, and whose work falls within the various guidelines for these grantmaking programs. Competitive grants for 2012 will cover the following categories:  the Arts; Community Development; Education; Environment; Health; Youth, Women and Girls; and technical assistance to nonprofit agencies.
