Author Examines Risks And Rewards Of Yoga

JCC Of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale expecting packed house to hear controversial discussion on Yoga.

The is expecting a standing-room only crowd Sunday as guest speaker William Broad of Larchmont talks about his new book — The Science of Yoga: The Risks and the Rewards.

Broad is a science writer for The New York Times, and a yoga practitioner himself since 1970. Broad understands its ability to calm, cure, energize and strengthen. He also understands its ability to inflict pain, and cause problems ranging from relatively mild strains and sprains to permanent disabilities.

So before you pick up your mat and head for class, let Broad ensure you reap the benefits of yoga - and avoid the dangers.

The discussion led by Broad is set for 1 p.m. at JCC Mid-Westchester, 999 Wilmot Road, Scarsdale. He's be introduced by Jacques Steinberg, author of The Gatekeepers and Your Are and Ironman.

The event if free and a Q&A session and book signing will follow. Advance registration for the event is suggested.

Broad will also be speaking in his hometown on Sunday, March 25, at 4 p.m. at a discussion sponsored by the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library in the Larchmont Village Center, 121 Larchmont Ave., Larchmont. Complimentary wine and snacks will be served at 3:30 p.m. at the event, which is free and open to the public.
