Hoff-Barthelson Music School invites middle and high school musicians to take the next step in their musical journey by auditioning for the School’s acclaimed Youth Orchestra Program. Auditions for the Chamber Orchestra and Festival Orchestra will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the School’s Scarsdale campus, located at 25 School Lane.
Led by Director of Orchestral Programs Dr. Leandro Gazineo, Hoff-Barthelson’s orchestras offer a dynamic and inspiring environment where students develop technical excellence, artistic expression, and a deep sense of musical collaboration.
The Chamber Orchestra welcomes musicians in grades 6–10 who are eager to sharpen their technical skills and deepen their ensemble experience in a nurturing, skill-building environment. Students benefit from personalized coaching, a carefully curated repertoire, and a focus on collaboration and expressive playing.
The Festival Orchestra is Hoff-Barthelson’s flagship ensemble for advanced high school musicians. This full symphonic orchestra performs a wide-ranging repertoire—from classical masterworks to contemporary compositions and culturally diverse selections—allowing students to explore music’s richness and variety. With a focus on expressive interpretation, ensemble cohesion, and musical leadership, the Festival Orchestra offers a thrilling and immersive experience for students eager to take their playing to the next level.
“Youth orchestra is about more than playing notes together—it’s about listening, responding, and growing as part of a community,” says Dr. Gazineo. “Students challenge themselves to achieve a high level of excellence, and along the way, they form meaningful connections and friendships that often last well beyond their time at the School.”
Younger students can begin their orchestral journey in the Young People’s Symphonette, a beginning string ensemble for students in grades 2–5. No audition is required, making it an accessible and welcoming introduction to ensemble music-making.
“At every level, we strive to create an experience where students feel inspired, supported, and proud of what they accomplish together,” Dr. Gazineo adds. “It’s a place where musical growth and personal connection happen side by side.”
