Check out the many events scheduled in April to welcome in spring. Below is a guide of Westchester events, some specifically focusing on Easter, Passover and Earth Day. Before you go, make sure to check age appropriateness and register when required.
- Appreciate the sounds, smells and sights of spring at the Trailside Nature Museum event "Ah, Spring" on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m. The event is inspired by poets who rhapsodize about spring being a time for the rebirth of life. Join in a hike around the park to look for signs of spring and hear readings from famous poets and authors.
- See the Scarsdale High School acapella group "For Good Measure" perform in Gilda’s Club Westchester’s 12th Annual “A Cappella Extravaganza” on Sunday, April 10, 2 p.m. at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry. Other performance groups include Bronxville and Mamaroneck High Schools, as well as The Master’s School, The Ursuline School and Manhattanville College’s Manhattanville Sound.” Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
- Participate in an interactive passover event for the entire family at Beth El Synagogue’s “Passover University” on Sunday, April 10 from 10 a.m.- 1 p,m. Workshops include "Successful Seder Secrets;" "Cooking Experience: Three Different Yummy Passover Recipes;" "Song Fest: Practice Your Favorite Seder Tunes and Learn Some New Ones to Enliven Your Seder;" "Children's Passover Craft Workshop;" "Pottery for Passover;" and "Matzah Factory: Make Your Own Matzah from Scratch." Registration is required.
- Listen to the Hoff-Barthelson Jazz Studies Department in “It must be Spring because…the Jazz Department is in Performance!” on Thursday, April 14 at 8 p.m. The event is free.
- Celebrate the arrival of spring on the farm at Philipsburg Manor in the “Sheep-to-Shawl” event on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. See Scottish border collies in sheep-herding demonstrations and frolicking newborn lambs. Also, explore the process of turning wool into cloth using 18th-century techniques, including sheep-shearing, dyeing wool, and weaving cloth.
- Search the Greenburgh Nature Center for hidden eggs in its Annual Spring Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 17 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Visitors will also have the chance to meet some of the animals from the Animal Museum. Make sure to bring a basket. The first hunt starts at 11:30 a.m. and the second hunt starts at 2 p.m. The event is sponsored in part by Westchester County Parks. For discounted rate, order tickets by Thursday, April 14. Early registration rates are: Members $4, Non-members $8. After April 14, the rates are Members $6, Non-members $10.
- Have fun at The Spring EGGstravaganza on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at the Scardale Middle School auditorium. Activities include a magic show, an egg hunt and a visit from a Holiday Bunny. No registration is required for this event, and admission is free. Remember to submit any decorated eggs for the competition by Thursday, April 21 to the Recreation Department.
- Learn about the different animals that lay eggs at the Trailside Nature Museum’s "Egg-Layers: Oviparous creatures of Ward Pound Ridge" on Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. Participants will also make their own edible nests to take home.
- Attend the Earth Day Celebration at the Greenburgh Nature Center on Saturday, April 23 from 1-3:30 p.m. Participants will help spruce up the grounds, prepare garden beds, clear the trails and more. The naturalist staff will also teach about sustainability practices. The event is part of the Children and Nature Network’s Let’s G.O.! (Get Outside) initiative to get intergenerational groups outside together. Registration is required and free.
