On Saturday, Pearl River baseball came to Scarsdale and .

Rich Masley and Jake Tedesco sparked the Scarsdale offense from the top two spots of the lineup. Masley went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot with two runs and three stolen bases. Tedesco went 2-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI in the win.

Nyack’s Kivlehan Makes Conference History

Senior Pat Kivlehan of West Nyack batted his way to the first-ever Triple Crown in Big East baseball history, and senior Ryan Fasano of Stony Point allowed only three earned runs in seven innings as playoff-bound Rutgers University erupted for 10 runs in the seventh inning to overtake Villanova University, 10-8, at Bainton Field in Piscataway, NJ.

Kivlehan, who was a key member on the highly successful RU football team, went 1 for 3 with an RBI to win the coveted Triple Crown with a .402 average, 10 home runs and 36 RBI.

Fasano, making his final career start at Bainton Field, gave up eight hits and struck out four as the Scarlet Knights capped the regular season at 31-23 and 16-11 in the Big East, while Villanova dropped to 28-27 and 10-17.

Rutgers will face state rival Seton Hall in the first round of the Big East Championships on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Clearwater, FL.

Jaspers: Home Sweet Home

The Manhattan College baseball team punctuated a perfect 18-0 season at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale with a 2-1 victory over Siena College.

The Jaspers enter the NCAA Division I record books as the only club in the nation to go undefeated at home in 2012 after dropping Siena to 18-37 all told, 8-16 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The contest got tight in the eighth inning when the Saints pulled to within a run, but freshman pitcher Michael Scarinci of Nanuet battled back getting three straight fly outs.

With its seventh straight victory, Manhattan (29-24, 18-6 MAAC) carries the nation’s fifth-longest active win streak into the MAAC Tournament as the Jaspers vie for their second straight championship. The top-seeded Jaspers will play either Rider or Fairfield in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy.

Mortarboard Musings

• Junior Amber Stephens of Stony Point finished 15th in the triple jump as SUNY Cortland finished fifth out of 55 schools at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. Stephens, a North Rockland graduate, leaped 35-feet, 63/4 inches. Ithaca won the title with 68 points, followed by Wheaton (Mass.) (60), Williams (43), Amherst (40), Cortland (39) and Tufts (36). Stephens qualified for the NCAA Championships Thursday through Saturday in Claremont, CA.
• Freshman outfielder Lauren Milligan of New City batted .111 in 39 games for the Siena College softball team that went 20-30. Milligan, a graduate of Paramus Catholic, started seven games for the Saints and had one stolen base.
• Hadley Duncan of Rye, a junior attack, is leading the Trinity College women’s lacrosse team with 60 points on 55 goals and five assists. The fifth-ranked Bantams (20-1) advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game against Salisbury following a 7-5 victory over second-ranked SUNY Cortland (20-2). Duncan is a graduate of Holy Child.
• SUNY Cortland outscored Tufts University 8-1 over the final 26 minutes to overcome a 9-4 deficit and the nationally second-ranked Red Dragons defeated the fourth-ranked Jumbos, 12-10, in the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse semifinals at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. Cortland remained undefeated at 21-0 and faces top-ranked and unbeaten Salisbury University (22-0) in the national title game.  Junior midfielder Tom Casey of Yorktown has six points for Cortland in 18 appearances. Freshman midfielder Andrew Billups of New Rochelle has appeared in 16 games while sophomore defenseman Stephen Burke of Yorktown has seen action in three games.
