Update: Driver Dies in One-Car Hutchinson River Parkway Crash

The fatal crash occurred during Monday morning rush hour.

Updated at 3:03 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015: Monday morning’s one-car accident northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway turned fatal Monday afternoon, according to Westchester County Police.

A 73-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, was killed when his 2013 Nissan drove off the parkway at about 8 a.m. and hit a tree near exit 22 in Scarsdale. Traffic was backed up for hours as police investigated the crash and closed a lane.

The Journal News reports the man was pronounced dead at White Plains Hospital, and that county police believe he may have suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel which caused him to veer off the road.

Original story: A man suffered serious injuries Monday morning when his car crashed into a tree on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale, according to Westchester County Police.

The Journal News reports the 8 a.m. accident snarled traffic northbound on the Hutch well past 9:30 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

The crash occurred near Mamaroneck Road north of exit 22.
