Edgemont and Scarsdale High Schools among State's Best

Edgemont (#29) and Scarsdale (#73) high schools were rated among the best in New York, according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

To come up with its best-of lists, the publication reviews nearly 30,000 schools spread among the 50 States and looks at various criteria such as student performance, Advanced Placement and STEM participation and student-teacher ratios.

• Edgemont Junior-Senior High School’s top 30 rating earned a gold award from the publication, which also noted that the AP participation rate is 78 percent at the school. Its national rank is 183rd, and its STEM rank is 67th.

Total enrollment for the school is 920 and there is a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Based on test scores, 93 percent of students are proficient in English and 99 percent are proficient in mathematics.

• Scarsdale High School’s top 75 rating earned a silver award from the publication, which also noted that the AP participation rate is 48 percent at the school. Its national rank is 686th, and its STEM rank was not listed.

Total enrollment for the school is 1,452 and there is a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Based on test scores, 99 percent of students are proficient in English and 99 percent are proficient in mathematics.
