"More than thirty years ago the members of the then Board of Education welcomed me, a rookie administrator, to the faculty here at EHS and entrusted me with the responsibility and privilege of caring for students in grades 7 through 12. More than twenty years ago, another set of Board members expanded my role by entrusting me with the responsibility of overseeing the education of students in grades K through 12.

Never would I have dreamt that the relationship that began in 1981 and that was renewed in 1990 would grow and develop to the extent that it has – so much so that at times it’s hard for me to think of having worked anywhere else and so much so that it’s hard for me to think that there can be a life after Edgemont. I’ve learned here; I’ve grown here; and I’ve enjoyed almost every minute of my time here, most especially when some twenty years ago I fell in love with the Edgemonter who is my husband, Spencer Dvorkin.

It is with a plethora of very mixed emotions—excitement, enthusiasm, and yes, trepidation--that I make a public announcement of a decision that I have already shared privately and definitively with members of the current Board and with those of you who attended meetings and who listened to discussions that I have led this past year about succession planning. I will be retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, knowing that there really is a life after Edgemont, albeit a life that will forever be influenced by the amazing experiences that I have had here.

I have made my decision with gratitude for the past thirty-one years
here in Edgemont, years that have been enriched by the incredible
friendships that I have had with so many wonderful people too numerous to even think of identifying tonight but with whom I know I want to stay in contact. Edgemont, with its combination of seasoned and new faculty members, seasoned and new administrators, seasoned and new community members, seasoned and new students (many of whom are the children of the kids I knew and loved as students) is certainly in a great position to move
forward, a factor that certainly helped make my decision a bit easier than it otherwise would have been. I have also made my decision with a commitment to all of you that my last year will be one during which I will continue to do all that I can to make a difference in the lives of the terrific kids who this community entrusts to our care as educators. With your ongoing support and ever-present assistance, I know that the 2012-2013 year will be another great year.

Thank you for making Edgemont the wonderful school community it is. Thank you for giving me the opportunities I have had as a member of this special place called Edgemont."
