Edgemont Seniors Gearing Up For Graduation, Prom and Awards Night
The Class of 2012 will be celebrating with special events.
Senior Prom
The time has finally arrived for the Class of 2012 to put on their dresses, shoes and corsages and celebrate the end of the year. On June 8, the seniors will be dancing the night away at prom.
“I'm looking forward to having a really good time with my grade," said Edgemont Senior Stephanie Panayiotou. "Edgemont is small and everyone is pretty close so I think we all just want to have fun [at prom] before graduation and before we all go to different places."

She is looking forward to the seniors' special event.
“We've had events like road painting and senior forum, but prom is the last big event we get to share as a grade, and with people that most of us have known all of our life,” Panayiotou said.

Ameya Acharya, a senior class officer who helped organize prom, said, “Prom is special because, realistically, when else are you going to be in black tie apparel with all your friends?”
Edgemont's Senior will take place on June 8 at Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Tickets go on sale June 4. Pre-prom celebrations will take place at the high school from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Senior Awards Night
In the past four years, many Edgemont seniors have had numerous accomplishments in a variety of subjects and extracurricular activities. Now, it is time to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.
Senior Awards Night will be held at on June 6 at 7:00 p.m.
“The purpose of senior awards night is to recognize the seniors and their hard work throughout their successful journey here at Edgemont,” Senior Class Representative Darren Hawks said.
Award recipients do not know what award they have received until the night of the event. Awards recognize students for achievements in subjects such as math, science, English, fine arts and athletics. Some of the awards this year include National Merit Scholar, Certificate of Special Recognition, the George Washington University School of Engineering Award and the Model United Nations Award, among many others.
Graduation
Congratulations are in order! The Edgemont High Class of 2012 graduation will take place on Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to what always happens around here at commencement," Senior Class Representative Darren Hawks said. "[It's] a real culmination of the school and the community celebrating these students’ hard work.”
Principal Devan Ganeshananthan, Superintendent Nancy Taddiken and a member of the Board of Education will address the class. Three seniors chosen from open tryouts will also speak, as well as a faculty member nominated by seniors. The speakers have not yet been chosen.
For senior Aria Cohen, “graduation is very exciting,” she said. “I can’t say I feel melancholy about any of it yet. I can’t wait to start college and see how my life and the rest of my peers’ lives start to unroll.”
A reception and refreshments hosted by parents of the junior class will follow commencement.
