OCTOBER EVENING PROGRAM FOR ADULTS:
WED, OCTOBER 12, 2011—7PM REFRESHMENTS / 7:30PM PROGRAM— MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT— Local candidates running for political office are invited to describe their positions on key environmental issues and answer questions from the audience. Come meet the candidates for the upcoming Westchester County Board of Legislators elections for Districts 2,3,4,5,7,12. Candidates from both parties will present their environmental accomplishments to date and platforms for (re)election. The depletion of the Environmental Protection Fund in Albany and budget cuts in Westchester County have made this a crucial election for all/any local environmental projects to remain a priority. Be a part of the democratic process and shape the quality of life in Westchester County. Join your fellow taxpayers-voters on October 12th and tell your elected officials how you feel on the subjects of protecting our watershed and ecosystems, increased recycling, open space preservation and the highly contested issue of hydrofracking. Candidates scheduled to appear are: Peter Harckham (D, Dist 2), Peter Michaelis (R, Dist 2), John Nonna (D, Dist 3) Michael Smith (R Dist 3), Michael Kaplowitz (D, Dist 4) Dr. Iris Pagan (R, Dist 5) and Mary Jane Shimsky (D, Dist 12) is also representing Judy Myers (D, Dist 7) and Bill Ryan (D, Dist 5) at this event. Presentation hosted by the Greenbugh Nature Center in partnership with the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Chapter – Program is held at the Nature Center. Light refreshments will be served at 7pm; Presentation at 7:30 and runs approximately 45 minutes, with time for questions and discussion. The program is designed for adults and high school students. The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, pond, gardens, and outdoor animal exhibits, including a birds of prey aviary. Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum with over 100 specimens, exhibit areas focusing on nature and the environment, a greenhouse with botanical exhibits, and a gift shop.
The Center is located at 99 Dromore Road, off Central Park Avenue, in Scarsdale, NY. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The Center’s indoor exhibits are open daily except Fridays and a few holidays, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekends. Grounds open dawn until dusk every day.
