In memory of Gisela Knight, former town comptroller
TRAFFIC ALERT--TRAFFIC DELAYS ON EAST HARTSDALE AVE 8 AM TO 4 PM UNTIL OCTOBER 6
If you are in a rush to get to and from the Hartsdale train station you should expect traffic back ups until October 6th. Con Ed is doing some essential work. Today many residents contacted me to complain about the traffic delays. Please spread the word. We apologize for the inconveniences that residents and motorists experienced today. Going forward -we need to work with Con Ed and improve the notification process of traffic delays when there are traffic inconveniences (Con Ed or because of other reasons). We need to do whatever we can to help you avoid delays and missed appointments.
IN MEMORY OF GISELA KNIGHT, FORMER TOWN COMPTROLLER FOR GREENBURGH
The first Town Comptroller who worked for me was Gisela Knight. I appointed Gisela Knight to the position immediately after my first election as Town Supervisor. I had followed her career as Dobbs Ferry Mayor . I was impressed with how passionate she was about good government. She was detail oriented, extremely honest, wasn't afraid to express her views on issues. As Comptroller she worked hard to make sure that tax dollars were spent efficiently and wisely. Greenburgh is a better place because of her. She was a model public servant and a role model for citizens and officials. I learned a tremendous amount from Gisela and will never forget her service and her enormous contributions to our community.
Statement of Herbert Rosenberg, Former Village Judge of Dobbs Ferry
Gisela Knight, the former Comptroller of Greenburgh, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the place to which she retired after her years as Greenburgh Comptroller.
Gisela was born in Germany in 1927 . She lived through the terrible Nazi years, which she hated. After the war she worked as a translator and she met her husband, the American David Knght. They came to the United States and settled in Dobbs Ferry. Gisela soon became one of Dobbs Ferry’s most admired residents.
She was a go-to person for all kinds of public service. She became the president of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters, then a trustee on the Dobbs Ferry Board, and then was elected mayor of Dobbs Ferry. After finishing her service as mayor, in 1992 she was appointed Comptroller of Greenburgh, where she served with distinction until her retirement. She then moved to New Mexico where her daughters lived.
Gisela was enormously admired, not only for her exceptional abilities, but also because she was a person universally regarded as possessing absolute integrity. It was said of her that she was incapable of fudging or lying, and that was probably the reason, in addition to her abilities, why she was so admired and so sought after for positions of responsibility and leadership
