Girl Scouts Explore Glamorous New World At Scarsdale's D'Errico Jewelry

D'Errico Jewelry recently hosted Girl Scout Troop 1172. Troopers learned about field about and got free pendants. Other Troops are welcome.

SCARSDALE, NY – A new generation of potential jewelers recently got a chance to see
into the world of gems, precious metals, and jewelry making and design, as Girl Scout Troop 1172 toured D'Errico Jewelry's landmark log cabin store at 509 Central Park Avenue.

Scouts were grateful for the chance to see the incredible variety of activities underway at D'Errico Jewelry and the possibilities for their own futures. “I have a new appreciation for jewelers,” says Alexandra Duque, daughter of troop leader Elizabeth Duque. “It's exciting to think that, some day, I'll have the chance to develop the skills of the people that work here.”

One thing the troop learned was the difference between a true jeweler and a jewelry store. D'Errico Jewelry doesn't just sell jewelry – it designs and makes it using some of the most sophisticated tools available. In their visit to the Scarsdale store, the scouts got a chance to see the Computer Aided Design software used in tandem with a state-of-the-art 3D printer.

They then learned about the 5,000-year old “lost wax” process that takes the 3D printers output and turns it into beautiful metal rings, pendants, necklaces and many other designs. D'Errico Jewelry even gave them a chance to help make sterling silver “Initial Pendants” for themselves.

“The entire D'Errico Jewelry Family couldn't have been nicer to our Troop,” says leader Elizabeth Duque..”They were so generous with their time, providing our Troop with a terrific tour of the store,
and insight into the designing and manufacturing custom-made jewelry. The girls even got to stamp their own jewlery!!”

“Participating with the community is a top priority at D'Errico Jewelry,” says co-founder and owner Richard D'Errico. “We need strong, creative women in the jewelry world, and I'm thrilled to show these young
women a path they can follow.” Richard welcomes inquiries from Girl Scout, Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops that would like to take tours.

With stores in Scarsdale and at 59 East Main Street, Mount Kisco, D'Errico Jewelry is Westchester's leading fine jeweler. The pieces D'Errico Jewelry creates are designed to hold their appeal and last for generations, hence the motto, “Today's gift, tomorrow's heirloom.”

“Can I just buy the whole store? It's so cool!,” Alexandra says.

Troops interested in tours can contact D'Errico Jewelry at its Facebook page, or e-mail Richard at richied63@aol.com.
