Inside the Scarsdale Courthouse

A glimpse inside the headquarters of justice in Scarsdale.

Here's a look at what happened during the village court's April 7 session.

But first, a tip for all you would-be defendants: wear pants and shoes to court. The presiding court officer Wednesday scolded a defendant in a traffic case for showing up in athletic shorts and flip-flop sandals.

Katherine Puente Weaver, 27, of Wappingers Falls pleaded guilty to petit larceny, a misdemeanor, after stealing about $4,000 in cash from the Saxon Woods Golf Course, where she worked at the Pro Shop. She was originally charged with felony grand larceny.

Weaver now faces three years of probation and up to sixty days in county jail, which she would likely serve on weekends so she could watch her young daughter during the week. She will also have to pay the money back to the golf course.

The defendant is already on probation after being convicted of an unidentified misdemeanor in Yonkers. She allegedly violated her probation earlier this year and appeared in Yonkers court last month to face those charges.

Weaver is married with a young daughter, and her husband is the only one in the family who works. Weaver's attorney, Arlene Popkin of the Legal Aid Society, said Wednesday that if her client is sentenced to jail, she would likely end up serving her time on weekends, which is called an interim sentence.

She will be sentenced May 5.

Convicted Drunk Driver Back in Court for Violating Probation

Glenn Suarez, 28, of the Bronx, pleaded guilty last year to DWI, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and marijuana possession. He was sentenced to a year of probation, but failed to report to his probation officer as scheduled.

He was back in court Wednesday to answer to the charge, but his attorney couldn't make the date because of a scheduled appearance in Eastchester. The case was adjourned to April 14.

Village's Suit against Christie Place Tenants Settled

Details are sketchy as of press time, but the village Wednesday settled a suit with a couple who moved into the Christie Place luxury condominiums a couple years ago but are no longer able to afford the payments.

Court Clerk Judy Bromley did not have the details, but she said it was likely that the tenants, who have school-age children, would be allowed to stay in the condo until school lets out for the summer, and would then have to leave.
