Letter to the Editor: Harry Reynolds Addresses CNC

A statement issued by longtime local running independently for a Board of Trustee position in March's upcoming election.

I have obtained substantially more signatures in support of my nomination to run in the March 20th election than are required by law. Indeed, two  clever citizens have been recommended by me to a prosecutor for investigation of  indisputable violations of the Penal Law which, if proved, carry sentences of up to one year in our county slammer.

Last, there have been back slapping, good humoured threats of the imminent appearance of the traditional mud-slingers. For these ignorant evangelists, identifiable by their short necks, a just God provides the experience given to defendants in civil actions that extend longer than the lives of the defendants.

In order to avoid suffering from which only over-weight lawyers can profit, I make the following proposal to the Citizens Party:

My purpose in suiting up for a challenge to the Citizens Party is to persuade it to abandon the practice of secrecy with respect to the identity of applicants for nominations and with respect to the statements made by them and the nominating committee before whom they appear.

If the Citizens Party agrees formally to those two changes for the next two election cycles, I will withdraw from the election.

It is my belief that those two election cycles will show that the removal of secrecy will not impair in any significant way the purpose of the Citizens Party and that the citizens of the village will be confident in the transparency they will have in the workings of that party. If on the other hand, the proof shows that the secrecy now practiced is justified by the experience of the two election cycles, then the Citizens Party could, in conscience, restore the secrecy.
