Lowey Optimistic About Federal Funds For TZ

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) said on Thursday she has been speaking with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood about getting for the new Tappan Zee Bridge project. She said there are billions of dollars in the TIFIA (Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act) portion of the transportation bill that was just passed in Congress.

“I do believe the money will be allocated,” she said. “This bridge, we hope, will be built.”

New York State and Thruway Authority officials applied for $2 million for the project but it was not selected in the funding round held in April.
