Sixty-four students at are taking part in a new Mandarin class.
Earlier this week, Sylvie Corten, chair of the World Language Department, gave an update to the Board of Education about the new program at the high school.
"We're excited by the work we've done in the first year," Corten said. "We're looking forward to watching it grow."

Mandarin, taught by Wenhui Gu, is offered to students in grades nine through twelve. With three levels, students learn community, culture and communication in the program, Corten said.
For the upcoming school year, 57 students are already signed up for the course, she said.
