HARTSDALE, NY — Maria Regina High School's all-girls marching band will be marching Thursday in New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The band held its final rehearsals for the big day on Wednesday in front of the school building.

Maria Regina's marching band made its debut in October in the 44th annual Bronx Columbus Day Parade. It was the only all-girls band among 50 groups, including several other high school ensembles that march in the community event.

The 11 young musicians represent all grades at the school and have been outfitted with brand-new special uniforms and equipped with bells, snare and bass drums.

Maria Regina’s band is part of the new marching band and a string and rhythm orchestra program that the all-girls Catholic high school launched in 2021. The string and rhythm orchestra is designed to introduce students to an array of instruments, including violins, violas, cellos, guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion.
