Why Go: Think you or your kid (ages 4 and up) has talent? Actors, singers, dancers, and models will perform in front of top scouting agents in this event hosted by D&D Talent and the International Model and Talent Association (IMTA). The scouts will be looking for the brightest and best new talent to be featured in television commercials, broadway, magazines, and movies.

Readings: Sunday @ the JCC with George and Friends

When/Where: Sunday, Feb. 26, 1:30 pm at the , 371 S. Broadway, Tarrytown.

Why Go: Spend a mellow Sunday afternoon listening to the works of accomplished local authors.  This week the JCC presents Emil Draitser reading a chapter from Shush! Growing up Jewish under Stalin: A Memoir and George Kraus, reading new works of poetry.

Circle Line Sightseeing:  Naked Polar Bear Cruise

When/Where: Saturday, Feb. 25. Boarding time: 10:30 a.m., sailing time: 11 a.m.–12 noon at Pier 83, West 42nd Street

Why Go:  Not a local event, but a fun one. In its fourth annual Polar Bear Cruise, Circle Line is teaming up with The Coney Island Polar Bear Club to raise money for the Wildlife Conservation Society, which oversees The Bronx Zoo and The New York Aquarium. Passengers are encouraged to strip down to bathing suits and enjoy a winter ride to the Statue of Liberty. Giveaways will be awarded to those who withstand the cold the longest. All “naked” participants are asked to seek individual sponsorships to help raise money. Anyone can bundle up inside the warm vessel and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate, when the cold gets to be too much.

Price:  Spectators can purchase tickets for $20 and participants ride for free

 

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

When/Where:  Thursday, Feb. 23-26, 6:15 p.m. at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford

Why Go: The Westchester Broadway Theatre presents Big River, a theatrical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Free Craft Fun

When/Where: Saturday, Feb. 25, 11a.m.-3 p.m. at  in Scarsdale.

Why Go: Continuing its Free Crafts for Kids series on Saturdays, the Lakeshore Learning Store invites kids to unleash their creativity by doing a craft that honors Dr. Seuss's birthday—by designinng a super-silly stick puppet.

The Movies: "Rio"at The White Plains Library

When/Where: Sunday, Feb. 26, 2 p.m. at the Trove 

Why Go: This highflying animated comedy (from the makers of Ice Age) tells the story of Blu, a rare domesticated macaw who believes he's the last of his kind.  But when his owner learns about Jewel, Blu's female counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, they set out on an adventure of a lifetime. Rated G, 96 mins.

Suburbia Roller Derby Season Opener

When/Where: Saturday, Feb, 25, 6 p.m. at Yonkers Police Athletic League, 127 North Broadway, Yonkers

Why Go: Westchester County’s premiere roller derby league, Suburbia Roller Derby, will host the first bout of its 2012 season. It will feature Suburbia’s all-star travel team, the Suburban Brawl who host upstate New York’s Hellions of Troy for an evening of hard-hitting derby.

Price: General admission is $10; $20 for VIP seating. Military discount $2 per ticket at the door with military ID.

 

Free Eating Disorder Screenings

When/Where:  Sunday, Feb. 26 (through March 3), 9 a.m. at 67 S. Bedford Rd, Mount Kisco

Why Go:  Feb. 26-March 3 is Eating Disorder Awareness week. Cedar Associates will be offering free eating disorder screenings to the general public throughout the week. "Eating disorders are difficult to understand and treat psychologically, psychiatrically, and medically" stated Executive Director of Cedar Associates Judy Scheel, Ph.D., LCSW. Anyone who is interested can speak with a licensed mental health professional who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders. Jet Ski-Boat-ATV Spectacular Seminar

When/Where: Saturday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at  in Peekskill

Why Go:  This full-day seminar is for boating and jet-skiing aficionados. At this event, hosted by John Vargo and Lex of Boating on The Hudson Magazine, you will hear from experts, guest speakers and see boats, jet-ski's and ATV's on display.
