Pregame Show: Miss New York a Contender

So - what are Alyse Zwink's chances of winning Miss America tonight? 

If clips from the documentary style television show, Miss America: Behind the Curtain, which ran from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST on Friday and Saturday, are any indication, pretty darn good! 

The one-hour special aired just prior to the competition and featured footage of the women in preliminary competitions that ran each night in Las Vegas over the days leading up to the competition.

Gems coming from or about Alyse Zwick (who lives in Scarsdale when not glamming it up): 

  • "I had a win on my birthday - it's the most I could ask for," after being awarded the preliminary award for the Lifestyle and Fitness (formerly swimsuit) competition

  • "I feel confident in everything that was asked," her response to interviewer Carson Kelly after she met with the judges' panel for her personal interview

  • "Wow, that is a lot of dress," said Carson Kelly - who also hosts TLC show What Not to Wear - when she emerged in a floor-length plum colored ruffly dress....then:

  • "I will tell you I think Miss New York just rocked that gown better than anybody else," said Kelly.  "Look at her guide down those stairs."
  • Susan Powell, Miss America 1981: "I think Miss New York has a great chance at winning."
  • During introduction: "From the state where Lady Liberty is our Miss America, I'm Miss New York!"
