Wilson Picked as GOP Nominee for Comptroller

In a victory that left little to the imagination – nobody else was on the ballot – Scarsdale resident Harry Wilson was named by the state GOP as the party's nominee for state comptroller.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. – when his campaign sent out a typed copy of his acceptance speech – the Fulton County, NY native received the nomination and thanked his party for offering its backing.

Scarsdale Patch posted the story after the Albany Times-Union broke the news in a blog post by Jimmy Vielkind, who was writing from the New York City convention this afternoon.

Wilson's comments, which were released by his campaign are posted, unedited, as a PDF accompanying this story.

A few comments from the release:

"I decided to leave the business world and make this run for Comptroller because of one central truth: if we continue on our present course, our children will be the first generation of New Yorkers to be worse off than their parents."

"This sad situation didn't happen by accident. The professional politicians created this mess. And now the rest of us have to pick up the pieces..."

"$7.7 billion. That's how much tax revenue was lost from the 1.5 million New Yorkers who left our state this decade. Wow, wouldn't that help us with our deficit! We lost 8% of the state – a higher percentage than left Louisiana – and they had Hurricane Katrina! It is our manmade disaster in Albany that is driving out all these people... Who here has had a friend, neighbor or relative who left the state in the last five years?

"We can't go on like this. We shouldn't, and, if I'm elected, we won't. Decline is not inevitable. It is a choice - a choice of failed leaders and failed policies in Albany..."
