Scarsdale High School holds 9th grade orientation every year to help ease the transition from the middle school to the high school.
“Freshman orientation was great. It helped me get to know the school and how to get around without being overwhelmed that first day with the rest of the school there,” said Scarsdale High School sophomore Barak Stockler about his experience last year.

For Seniors: Common Application Release Date
With application season right around the corner, many seniors spend the last few weeks before school starts working on or planning components of their applications, especially their common app.
“Starting most of my applications in August made me feel a lot more confident and relaxed going into school in the fall,” Scarsdale High School graduate Elizabeth Ostertag said. “Whenever I’d have a spare minute, I'd just write a quick rough draft of an answer to a question, and even though most of what I wrote was far from perfect it's great to just get some ideas flowing when you're beginning to think about applying to college.”
Preview versions of the 2012-13 First-Year Applications are now available online at commonapp.org. The 2012-13 Common App Online will launch August 1.
Chalking event
Chalking is a senior class tradition at Scarsdale High School. Seniors write messages, memories, jokes, drawings, and often, “Class of 2013” on the concrete in front of the school together. The senior class officers will announce the date and time of chalking in the upcoming weeks.
SAT/ACT Tests
Some seniors choose to retake their SAT/ACT in the first few months of senior year, a few months before they apply to college.
“I took the SAT again during my senior year - I had already taken it twice already- to see if I would get a higher score,” said Scarsdale High School graduate Sara Takamatsu. “It was pretty hard, juggling college applications while studying for the SAT’s but I just tried not to pressure myself that much because it’s a very stressful time.”
