Scarsdale High Students Earn Science Honors

The juniors and seniors attended the 12th Annual Westchester Science and Engineering Fair.

Nine seniors and juniors in the science research class participated in the 12th annual Westchester Science and Engineering Fair hosted by Sleepy Hollow High School. This event, held on Saturday March 10, was attended by approximately 330 students from over 30 area schools. 

Daniel Levy won an American Meteorological Society Award, which is given to students with exceptional research in the areas of atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. He also won a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Awards, given to students whose research shows an understanding of, and ability to, predict changes in the earth's environment. Students' research also must show an effort to conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet the nation's economic, social and environmental needs.

Spencer Lee won an award sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, which is given to two Engineering and two Chemical engineering projects. Recipient are awarded a certificate, pin and their abstract will be entered into the national competition where they are eligible to win up to $1,000.

Fourth Place Awards were Sponsored by Westchester Academy of Medicine. All Fourth Place winners received a medallion and $25. Fourth Place winners included Gibran Mian for Medicine and Health, Todd Morse for Earth Science and Alyson Favilla for Animal Science.

Third Place Awards were Sponsored by Psychogenics Pharmaceuticals. Third place winners received a medallion and $50. Third Place winners included Jamie Tanzer for Medicine and Health, Spencer Lee for Engineering and Roger Pelligrini for Cell and Molecular Biology.

First Place Awards were Sponsored by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Winners of the First Place award received a gold medal and $100. Giancarlo Paternoster was awarded a first place in Engineering.

In addition, Jessica Li, a Scarsdale HS senior and former member of our program, also was awarded along with her teammate Jenny Yang from Briarcliff HS. This team, because it placed fourth overall,  was also one of the four top team winners and earned an all expenses paid trip to compete in the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair held this year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
