Scarsdale Middle School Seeking Judges for Speech Contest
Interested in helping? Sign up to be a judge.

It's that time of year again! This year marks the 29th anniversary of Speech Contest. We need your help in order to keep this great tradition going.
The SMS English department is looking for judges to help with the SMS speech contest. Over 300 seventh and eighth graders will take part in the SMS speech contest on Wednesday, March 28 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
The students memorize and perform speeches in one of five categories: humor, dramatic interpretation, poetry, original oratory and personal experience. The Middle School needs more judges to make this event successful and rewarding for the students.

Please consider signing up, even if your child is not in seventh or eighth grade. You will be impressed and delighted by the remarkable public speaking skills of the students. Sign up to be a judge here on the SMS English Department website or click here.
Judges perform a valuable service without which the contest could not function. As a judge, you will hear speeches in one of the five categories of the contest. Using criteria provided for this purpose, you will write brief comments and enter scores for each of the contestants (usually 5-7) who speak before you.
If you decide to help us, you will be expected to judge two preliminary rounds, and, if you desire to do so, you may judge a final round.
