CNC Election Results Announced; Non-Partisan Resolution Amendments Approved
Scarsdale residents rushed to Village Hall last night to cast their ballots for the Citizen's Nominating Committee elections. Here's a breakdown of the evening's events, along with the election results.
Scarsdale voters hurried their way to Village Hall last night to cast their votes before polls closed for the Citizen's Nominating Committee election.
Polls were open in the morning from 7:30-9 a.m., as well as in the afternoon and evening from 2-9 p.m.
Election volunteer Norman Alterman said before 5 p.m., over 200 Scarsdale voters had already filled out their ballots at Village Hall, as well as that voter turnout had been “pretty good." Alterman added that he anticipated an increase in voter turnout as Village residents returned from work around 5 p.m.
Alterman, who had been in contact with many voters during the day, also commented that he felt residents seemed most interested in electing someone who would “better represent [their] neighborhood.” And as he predicted, the influx of voters did start to increase at around 4:30 p.m. and was steady throughout a large part of the evening as residents swung by the polls on the way home from their jobs.
Attorney and voter Alan Garfunkel, 64, turned up to make his voice heard on the local issues that mattered to him.
“I am a big supporter of the indoor pool, and I would like to see the Non-Partisan System continue to go the way it's going," Garfunkel said. In terms of candidates he said, Garfunkel said he was looking for “someone who will look out to make sure that we get good people on the Boards.”
Winners were announced before midnight, and all nine proposed amendments to the Non-Partisan Resolution -- including adding membership on the CNC to the existing exclusions against simultaneous service on the Procedure Committee, household restrictions on who could run for the CNC and a former Trustee or Mayor restriction onto who can run for the CNC -- were overwhelmingly adopted.
