Still can't find that perfect Father's Day gift? How about spending some time with the family at the International Fine Arts Festival in downtown Scarsdale? Take some time to stroll the closed streets, enjoy the sculptures, paintings, photogra

Chase Road and Spencer Place were closed down early yesterday morning for the arrival of no less than 95 artisans from around the world who were showcasing and selling their creations.

Publicized for weeks, and with the help of sunny blue skies, the Scarsdale Fine Arts Festival, which engulfed most of the Village yesterday and continues on today as well, was packed.

Artists - so often holed away in the throes of conception - were out in force and showed off much of their best work, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, jewelry and more.

Our town is transformed. Streets usually filled with cars and errand-runners are now filled with people perusing, and some purchasing, the spectacular pieces of art.

"This is amazing. All of the art is so breathtaking. The amount of work, dedication and time that must go into each piece is truly touching. Everything is displayed so beautifully," said Sara, a Scarsdale resident who did not wish to share her last name.

The Paragon Fine Arts Festival, in conjunction with the Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce, put together the show.

"Scarsdale was chosen as a site to develop a destination fine arts festival given its long tradition of supporting the arts. As artisans, we see a consistent pattern of encountering patrons from Scarsdale at events around the country. Hence the phrase in the artists community that 'all roads lead to Scarsdale,' " said Bill Kinney, Director of Paragon.

"We believe art patrons in Scarsdale will truly appreciate the opportunity to have world-class artwork brought to their community, each piece hand-made by the artists with the chance to meet and talk with the artists that created each piece," he added.

Most of the artists featured in the festival have been award-winners from the top shows around the country, with their works represented in both private and public collections.

The festival repens again today, Sunday, June 20th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"I can't wait to come back tomorrow, but I'm bring my father with me. It will be perfect," said 12-year-old patron Jennifer.
