traffic light @ Ardsley Road/Ft Hill--replace blinking light

An important safety initiative to replace confusing blinking light. The light will make it safer for children to walk to school

The Greenburgh Town Board unanimously approved the 2024 capital budget last night. Among the initiatives approved in the budget was a traffic light at Ardsley Road/Fort Hill Road. The smart traffic light will replace a confusing blinking light at this location. The cost of the light is estimated to be about $650,000 and will control traffic and safety movements and also improve pedestrian safety. The Greenville school is located on Ardsley Road. Many children and parents/caregivers walk to school and cross Ft Hill Road to get to Ardsley Road.. The Edgemont Community Council supports this light.

The blinking light at this location was confusing. Cars stopping at one of four locations don’t always know when to allow motorists at the other corners to proceed. I have personally witnessed some minor accidents at this location over the years.

The capital budget also includes funding for a sidewalk on Fort Hill Road from Longview to Underhill. This sidewalk will enable students to walk from the ABC streets in Edgemont to different schools and also has the support of the Edgemont Community Council.
