Tribute To Tyler Madoff At Scarsdale High School; 'He Loved It Here'
Students organized a memorial Saturday for Tyler Madoff, the Scarsdale High School student who perished in an accident off the coast of Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Madoff attended.

Tyler’s parents attended the service and his mother addressed the crowd at Dean Field on Saturday night.
“We’re incredibly touched," Tyler’s mom, f, said to the crowd. "He loved it here. He loved Scarsdale. Hug your parents, even when they make you crazy. And hug your kids, even when they make you crazy.”

The event coordinators brought a jar for people to place a donation, giving Tyler’s parents the opportunity to give to a charity organization in Tyler’s name.

The service was for the community to share their memories of Tyler and process through the emotions. People were encouraged to come up to a microphone and speak about experiences with Tyler, talk about the things that they will miss, or the way that he had impacted them personally.
Many students came up to the microphone to speak, including the event coordinators, several members of the football team, various other students and faculty.
“I am at a loss for words. He was like family to me,” said one member of the SHS football team.
The other members of the football team spoke about his discipline and work ethic during the football season, and his commitment to his teammates.
According to his teammates, the football team decided to honor Tyler with a patch on their jerseys and a sticker on their helmets for away games, with his number 51 inside a circle. They installed a large photo of Tyler in their locker room that says, “This one’s for you.” The players said they plan to tap it for luck before every game. In addition, they are going to retire his jersey.
Neil Ginsberg, an SHS high school teacher, spoke at the event. He told the crowd that the one thing folks should be doing is "giving a lot of hugs."
He had the audience stand up and reach out to one another to give and receive hugs.
