Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: MLK Day Of Service Meal Packing Project

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

MLK Day Meal Packing Project
Join JCC Mid-Westchester to pack meal bags for the families served by Hope Community Services in New Rochelle. This project is a collaboration with the UJA Federation. Volunteers must be 16+ or 13+ with an adult.
Date: 1/19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Friendly Visit and Package Delivery for Seniors
DOROT's Winter Package Delivery brings hundreds of older adults and volunteers together to share warmth and companionship. Volunteers are needed to deliver a thoughtful, seasonal care package and stay for a 30-45 minute social visit with an older neighbor. All new Package Delivery volunteers will be required to attend a Zoom orientation; a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID is required to participate in this project.

Administrative Support
The Child Care Council of Westchester champions the healthy development of children, families, and the community by promoting quality early care and education. It's seeking volunteers to assist with some clerical duties, event preparation, and other office-related tasks. Volunteers will be organizing files, making copies, and performing outreach.

Adaptive Tennis Tournament Support
Fun For Cure, Inc. is looking for volunteers to help prepare and raise awareness for its adaptive tennis tournament for children with special needs. Volunteers can create social media content and flier art, update the website, and contact potential donors and sponsors. This is the perfect opportunity for volunteers with experience in fundraising, sponsorship, communications, and tennis, as well as enthusiastic, positive individuals who love working with children.

Host a Diaper Drive
Diaper need is a significant yet often overlooked issue, with many Westchester families struggling to provide this basic necessity for their children. Volunteers can support The Sharing Shelf to ensure that these families have access to clean, dry diapers by running a diaper drive at their home, school, business, or church. Diapers of every size are needed, although sizes 5 and 6 and pull-ups in 2T, 3T, and 4T are in highest demand. Baby wipes are always appreciated!
